The Indian film and web industry has changed significantly over the past few decades. New opportunities have opened up, especially for female actors, who were previously perhaps limited to only a few types of roles. Actress Shweta Tripathi shared her experiences regarding this change and her personal journey. She explained how her journey has evolved. Shweta said, “I have worked with people and on stories in my career that have given me the opportunity to think and feel in new ways.
I have always believed in challenging conventional thinking. Earlier, opportunities and roles for women in the film and TV industry were limited. The appearance and character of the heroine or female artist were often predetermined.” But now, digital platforms, new creators, and the changing mindset of the audience have completely transformed the way stories are told. Shweta also emphasized the crucial role of the audience in this change. She said, “It’s not just the storytellers who bring about change, but the audience also plays a vital role.
When the audience supports these new stories, embraces them, likes and appreciates the characters and narratives, it gives artists the courage to experiment. Today, artists have more room to explore new experiences and chart their own career paths.” Speaking about her personal experience, Shweta said, “The industry has taught me patience and boosted my confidence. Success is no longer seen in just one form. Earlier, it was believed that an artist only needed big names and box office hits. But today, the definition of success has changed, and it can be different for everyone.
When you do good work and it is appreciated, it gives you a special kind of strength.” Shweta added, “The different roles and stories I’ve been a part of in my career have always been memorable for me. All the characters have given me the opportunity to think and feel in different ways. I am very fortunate to have a profession that allows me to see and understand things in new ways.” She said that women’s place and voice in the industry have become much stronger than before. Now, not only big stars but also smaller and newer artists can make their mark and connect directly with the audience. This change offers both opportunities and creative freedom.
