The Punjab government has issued comprehensive rules to control the sale and use of crackers in the state during Diwali, Guruparv, Christmas and New Year. The government has banned strings of crackers.
At the same time, e-commerce platforms including Flipkart and Amazon have been banned from accepting online orders or facilitating sales. A statewide ban has been imposed on the manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and use of composite crackers.
Only Green Crackers Can Be Used
Only the sale and use of ‘green crackers’ is allowed. Sales are restricted to licensed traders who deal only in prescribed crackers and storage, display or sale of crackers above the prescribed decibel level is prohibited.
Citing the orders of the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal, the Punjab government said that using the powers delegated by the Central Government, prohibition, restrictions and rules have been implemented on the sale and use of firecrackers in Punjab.
Ban On Online Ordering Too
An official spokesperson said that e-commerce platforms are prohibited from ordering or selling firecrackers online in Punjab. In this regard, the orders of the Supreme Court and NGT (National Green Tribunal) were cited. The spokesperson said that the manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and use of joint firecrackers has been banned. Let us tell you that the state government has imposed restrictions and rules on the sale and use of firecrackers under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
How long can firecrackers be burst on which day
On Diwali (October 31) from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
On Guruparva (15 November) from 4:00 am to 5:00 am and from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
On Christmas (25-26 December
New Year’s Eve (31 December-1 January) from 11:55 pm to 12:30 am.
Firecrackers can be sold only with a license
However, in the order issued by the government, it has also been said that only those with a license will be able to sell firecrackers. Also, the sale or storage of firecrackers with sound above the prescribed decibel level will also be prohibited. Let us tell you that the Supreme Court and NGT have already decided these rules.
