Virat Kohli In Trouble; This Legal Setback Before IPL Final, Police Registered In This Case

Former captain of Indian cricket team and legendary batsman Virat Kohli has come into a trouble. Kohli has got a legal setback before IPL final 2025. In fact, the police have registered a case against Virat Kohli’s famous restaurant and pub One 8 Commune in Bengaluru. This action against the restaurant has been taken for violation of COTPA Act (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003).

Actually, this case is related to the smoking zone in Virat’s restaurant. The distance of Cubbon Park Police Station from One 8 Commune restaurant is just 200 meters. The police took suo motu cognizance without any complaint and took action in this matter by conducting a surprise inspection of the restaurant. The police found that the restaurant does not have a separate smoking zone. That is, no designated area has been set up for smoking in the restaurant. The police have registered a case against Virat’s restaurant and pub One 8 Commune under sections 4 and 21 of the COTPA Act.

At present, no reaction has come from Virat Kohli or One 8 Commune Restaurant on this matter. It should be noted that even before this, this famous restaurant and pub of Virat has come in a lot of discussion. In July 2024 also, this restaurant of Virat Kohli came into controversy. When at that time a complaint was lodged about the restaurant being open for a long time.

What are Section 4 and 21 of COTPA Act?

Section 4 of COTPA prohibits smoking in public places. At the same time, Section 21 imposes punishment and fine for violation of this law. Under Section 4, a no smoking board has to be installed at the entry gate of public places like schools, restaurants or other educational institutions. A proper and special place has to be decided for smoking. Section 21 provides for punishment and fine if found not following the rules of Section 4.

When is the final of IPL 2025?

The final of IPL 2025 will be played on Tuesday, June 3 (IPL 2025 Final Date) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Punjab Kings team captained by Shreyas Iyer has reached the final of IPL 2025. It defeated Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the IPL Qualifier-2 match on Sunday. The final match is to be played between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
